Mesopotamian Fallow Deer
The Mesopotamian fallow deer, also called the Persian fallow deer, is one of the rarest deer species in the world. Native to the forests and river valleys of the Middle East, these graceful creatures have striking spotted coats and impressive antlers.
Mesopotamian fallow deer are herbivores, feeding on leaves, grasses, and shoots. They are shy and elusive, often hiding in dense vegetation. Historically widespread, their population has been decimated by hunting and habitat loss. Conservation programs in Iran and Israel have helped stabilize their numbers, but they remain critically endangered.
