African Leopard
The African leopard is a magnificent and elusive big cat, roaming across a vast range of habitats in sub-Saharan Africa. From dense rainforests to arid savannas, this feline is an expert at adapting to its surroundings. Its iconic spotted coat, known as "rosettes," serves as camouflage, allowing it to blend seamlessly into the dappled light of the forest or the tall grass of the savanna.
Leopards are solitary creatures, often active at dusk and night. They are versatile hunters, preying on everything from small rodents to large antelopes. One of their most remarkable traits is their strength; leopards are known to haul prey weighing twice their own body weight into trees to protect it from scavengers like hyenas or lions. Agile climbers, they use trees not just as dining tables but also as resting spots and observation posts. However, human activity increasingly threatens their habitats, making them vulnerable to conflicts with humans and habitat loss.
