Fallow Deer

The Mesopotamian fallow deer is a rare and endangered subspecies of the fallow deer, native to the Middle East. Distinguished by its elegant frame and spotted coat, this deer inhabits river valleys and dense forests. It is herbivorous, feeding on leaves, grasses, and shoots. Males grow large, palm-shaped antlers used during the mating season to compete for females. Conservation efforts in protected reserves have been crucial in preventing their extinction, but habitat loss and hunting remain significant threats.
